Discover the essence of
Nadar matrimony within the Christian community, where the faith and love form the foundation of enduring relationships and cherished unions. The Nadar community primarily resides in the districts of Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, and Kanyakumari. Tamil and Malayalam are the Christian Nadar community's two most commonly spoken languages.
Traditionally, people involved in Christian Nadar Matrimony were associated with professions like climbing trees, gathering coconut sap, and cultivating jaggery and palmyra trees. Nadars also practised Varma Kalai, a form of martial art.
Christian Nadar weddings are surreal and take place the traditional way in churches. The bride dresses up in white while usually in a beautiful Western gown, and the groom dons a crisp suit with a white shirt (to match the bride's attire). All the other guests dress up in beautiful traditional sarees. The families exchange gifts. Depending on their taste, couples these days choose to introduce other events into the weddings, such as the exchange of garlands, surprise dance performances by friends and family, and flower showers. Christian Nadar Matrimony is usually favoured within the community itself.
